That blue plug might also plug into the back of the air-bypass thingy.

On the underside of the intake runners, on the back of where the airbypass tube connects there is an injector style connector.

It just doesn't look quite long enough to be the cold start(to me anyways).

 

No way slacker. I was confused as well, but being new here I didnt know if it was an inside joke. We wouldnt do that man.

 

So I started it. Fired right up. I decided to see what would happen without those plugs in. It worked. The idle was real rough. the major problem, though was the large amount of gasoline peeing from the lower passenger side (looks like). I'm not sure where it could be coming from. Nothing looks out of place. I think I'm just gonna tow it over to a Toyota mechanic and have them "put the finishing touches on it". There they can also check my EFI and computer stuff. What do you guys think?

Any ideas as to where the fuel could be coming from?

 

Did you reconnect the fuel return line from the fuel rail?

 

Ok, that's what it was. Fuel return line. I adjusted the timing. The idle is still a little rough and I still can't find where those durn plugs go. I'm dropping it off this morning at a mechanic. They will figure out the plugs and double check my work and maybe clean my fuel injection. Thanks everyone for your help! I'll post when I find out what the plugs were.

 

I certainly wasn't; you probably know a lot more about these Toyota's than I do. I was simply agreeing with you that the blue plug looks like the cold start injector. Most people aren't used to the Toyota having four cylinders but five injector plugs (or six cylinders & seven plugs etc.) & they may make the mistake of counting them & saying to themselves "yep, four. All of the injectors are plugged in" & forgetting about the csi.

 

Just an update. I dropped the truck off at a local mechanic to figure out why it was running so rough. they found a couple of vacuum lines in the wrong places and a wire I had still not connected. Other than that, they said I did a pretty good job and now it runs great! It feels almost like a new engine. You can barely feel it idle. I can feel the upgraded cam a little, but I think that intake and a header would help things alot more. Anyway, thanks to all for the input!

The mechanic found out where one of them go. One went to the knock sensor (I thought I had found that and had a wire to it, but I guess that was something else). The other is still loose under the hood. I need to go back and ask them about it, but I'm assuming it doesen't need it as it's running great and gas mileage seems to be normal so far. We'll see. Oh, it was the yellow plug that went to the knock sensor.

 

Yeah, as others said. Are you 100% positive that you have the cold start injector plugged up? Because that sure is what that blue plug looks like.

 

Well, if the cold start injector plug is facing forward just in front of the thermostat and just below and to the driver's side of the throttle body, then I have it plugged in. It looks like that's what it is in the manual. There is a blue plug there (I think it was blue.). Thanks!

I bet that's it. It's surely something to do with the fuel system. (I don't have the 22R or I'd have looked it over)

You win! That was it! Great picture, thanks alot! That plug is in the one spot I just couldn't see from any direction with everything back together. So what does that wire do? I wonder if I'll notice any difference. Thanks again.

 

Glad I could help. That plug gave me trouble when I did my head job. Im not sure what it does but I know that coolant runs through that valve so its got to be some kind of temp sensor or maybe a diverter valve.
