hub question
i need to replace the rotors on the front of my stock ifs 88 4runner, 4cyl, 5 speed. i took off the manual locking hub cover, and instead of seeing the end of the axle shaft with a snap ring on it, there was a bolt with a washer on it that was threaded into the end of the shaft. from the manual it seems like this is for auto locking hubs. i def don't have auto hubs, as the hub body is splined as it should be and the cover obviously has the lever to go locked or free with the dial.
i am trying to get the hub body off so I can get the hub/wheel bearings/rotor off.
i am also having an issue with getting the cone washers off, of course.
my main concern is that there is something else holding the hub body on. because i was not able to take the snap ring off, i just took the bolt off. the gear that internally splines to the end of the axle shaft and externaly splines to the locking part of the hub to the hub body wont slide off after taking the bolt out of the end of the axle shaft.
any info, insight you guys have would be much appreciated.

Make sure the clutch is in the hub body, then take the gold bolt out, Then you can get at the cone washers. There was a thread aboot the cone washer not too long ago. I just read further seeing your having a problem with the clutch coming out..? grab a pair of needle nose and see if you cant wiggle it out.. I assume you opened them up in the free position..? Also, Now might be the time to clean and re grease the mani hubs...Good luck !!

put the outside selector to free. take off the 10mm bolts. take out gold bolt/washer. take 12mm nuts and lock washers.off of the hub body. take smaller hammer and tap the seam where the alum hub body meets the hub, just keep rotating it and tapping OR put the nuts on a few threads and use a hammer and socket extension and tap the nuts that are on the studs that the cone washers are on. they should "pop" free and slide them off with needle nose pliers
