I posted a thread within past few days regarding my 4 runnier; 'rubbing followed by a clunk" . Initialing found a tear in the passenger side CV boot. I removed and purchased a new replacement. I did not notice any scaring or damage to the old unit. When I removed the front hub, rotor, and brake assembly and at the rear of the hub there is what appears to be a brass bushing and my first impression was that it is severely damaged and scarred with grooves on the face and down the sides of the bearing;/bushing, I have never had to replace the bearing/bushings so not clear what to expect. Appears there is a roller bearing to support the spline at the front but I am unclear what is supporting the spline at the rear of the hub.
Posting couple pic's in the hopes member(s) can provide some suggestions and/or advice. Further, if the hub is okay but the bushings need to be replaced does it a DIY or require special tools. I want to get the vehicle back on the road and either order replacement parts or take to shop and have the necessary work done.
Any suggestions and comments appreciated!!
I have replaced bearings in other vehicles in the past which usually consist of using a brass punch to remove the front and rear wheel bearings
That's not normal wear on back of that hub. I've never replaced one either, but I suspect you'll need a press to get it out. You might be better off just getting a new hub assembly, or good used one.
There is nothing wrong with the bushings in that hub

I have assembled the front axle and brake assembly and the remaining tasks are bleeding the brakes and torquing the CV axle which probly going to be a major pain in the backside, so today expect to take a test drive. Made a couple bone-head mistakes in this repair but should be better prepared replacing the driver's side, Likely replace the rotor on passenger side at the same time; if so, have the shop inspect and if necessary replace the hub busing??
