How to smog?

Might be a dumb question, but with lower gears and bigger tire, how does that affect your smog... does it? How does one smog a wheeler? back to stock first??? and smog, meaning stock gear stock tire or what's the dealio? Just thought i would ask?
Where to smog too?

doesnt matter. all they do is hook up a probe to your exhaust( yeah, almost like giving your truck an enema) and test the stuff comin out. they do it at idle and at 1500 rpm. while in neutral. gears and tires dont matter.

no here in az they run it on a dyno through the gears and different loads. if geared right you should be fine.

Here in California they test your vehicle on a dyno and it DOES make a difference if you have oversized tires without regearing.

in cali

that's what i thought... yeah of course us in cali we are on the dyno, test at 15 and 25mph, so as long as it's geared right, then it should be ok... right? So you folks in sacramento, where do you guys go, is it special smog place or should any be able to smog?

haha!, glad we don't have to worry about that here in alabama. but that's odd how some states test at idle/1500 rpms and other states actually use the dyno...

yeah. and its really weird that STATES themselves dont have smog, the counties do. i mean NEVADA and UTAH themselves dont have smog checks, but Clark County, one other county in nevada, and Salt Lake City have smog. its weird.

The only vehicles that are static smogged in california are vehicles with full time 4x4 or all wheel drive like my Subaru.

Is this something new? None of my vehicles have been smogged on a dyno and they are all 4wd. Or is this what is done when you are flagged to take it to a "smog only" inspection?

That's weird because I know there were guys down in SD that were complaining this year because the ended up getting flagged for smog only and they had never before.

Wow- I didn't know so many places had smog tests. We don't have any up here in Oregon, and I'm just fine with that.

honestly, smog checks are stupid. just a way for the county/city to make money. anyone ever notice the OLD cars.. in sd its 75 or older, in vegas its 67 or older, that they dont have to get smogged? they put out more pollution than any of our trucks do, even at the worst. also, dont get me started on the amount of pollution a plane makes taking off....

Yeah, smog tests are usually in larger metro areas, and areas where air pollution is an issue. Most (if not all) places in California require you smog when you sell your car, to anyone other than immediate family. I'm not against the idea of smog, it DOES help reduce pollution, I just don't quite understand why people in some rural areas have regulations that make it so you have to smog every 2 years. It just doesn't seem like a county of 50,000 people, and an average population density of less than 3 people per sq. mile would make much of a differance.

in humboldt county you only smog when selling a vehicle. i have never seen them smog on a dyno. if i had to smog every year or 2 years that would suck, my truck would be screwed.
