How many quarts do you use in 3.0's?

5 is standard, 4.8 is "perfect" anything less or more is technically under or overfilling it. You didn't mess anything up. That said, aim for about 4.9378256344124678350124632549876435 quarts on the dot

I put in 5 and usually end up adding about 1/8 of a quart after a week of driving to top it back off. It's nice being able to put in an even number and not worry about it.. My last rig took like 4 and somewhere between a quarter and half it sucked doing the ol pour and check.. pour and check method.

I was just asking because I just got this truck and I drove it for about a week or so then I decided to change the oil. When I first cranked it up after changing it the valves seemed to be rapping pretty loudly, much louder than before anyways, I was just thinking if I put too little oil in maybe not enough reached the top right away or something.....I know it's fine now, I was just a little worried becasue the valves were really quiet before I changed it.

What oil filter and oil did you use? I put in a Pure One from purelator and the gauge on the dash read much higher oil pressure with more valve noise... since going to either a botch or stock toyota the needle is much lower with less noise.
As long as you are not very far above the full mark you are ok. If you really overfill the crankshaft can whip the oil into a froth (just like the steamed milk in fancy coffee) and that can cause problems.
Like most posts here 5 quarts from the wally-mart jug.

I have 175K miles on my '94 3.0. I have an Amsoil remote bypass dual filter system and this allows me to have an 8 quart system. I also run Amsoil series 2000 0w30 full synthetic motor oil and I would never run anything else. I change my oil once a year.

I think it had 10w30 penzoil when I got it and a penzoil filter, I changed it to Castrol 10w40 with a stock Toyota filter. I'm in Texas and it's really hot here plus the valve cover gasket leaks pretty bad so I went with a little thicker oil.

Acutally, you still have 10-weight oil in your engine. The 30 or 40 designation just says that the 10-weight base oil has additives in it that make it perform like a 30-weight or 40-weight oil. You'll need to go up to a 20w-?? oil to get a thicker viscosity in there.

If I put 5 in it then I overfill it. Maybe they changed the capacity?
