Toyota told me 1988 3.0 pickups weren't recalled for head gaskets. What the hell something is fishy.

I ended up not buying that 88, the guy was kind of a weirdo, he told me he had done 3 or 4 timing belts but he had no receipts...anyways I bought a 95 limited 4runner 3.0 auto with 146k it runs great, one of the quietest 3.0's I've seen.

The early 3.0's used HG's with asbestos in them. The first style that Toyota changed to after the asbestos ban didn't hold up. That's why the later models were subject to recall.

Yea no kiddning, I had a 92 that took 3 engines before 130k when I sold it and a 90 that had a headgasket at 80 and 140k. This 95 I just bought runs great though and it's still on it's first, I'm crossing my fingers anyway though

Just about to roll over 180,000. I commute about 90 miles per day when I am in the office. My first mod (and only gripe about the truck) will be the radio (yeah, its got a tape deck) and if you turn the volume up really loud you can make out some of the broadcast over the severe static and hissing.

3.0 5-spd 4x4.

My previous 4runner, an 89, had 297,000 at the time of theft. Never got it back. My current 94 has 150,000.

188k, original HG's, runs as strong as any other 3.0 out there and then some. can still spin the tires. no complaints.
