How loud is the blower supposed to be?

Now that we have tons of snow and freezing cold temps in Missouri, I have had a chance to try out the heat in my truck. When I turn the fan on, the number 1 speed doesn't work (probably a bad resistor) but the other three speeds are just fine. My question is: How loud are these blowers supposed to be? Mine has a weird whine to it and is SUPER loud. Is there any way to lube these motors up to quiet them down and if so, what kind of lube?

my number one doesnt work, but the rest work all at high speed.

the thing is pretty darn loud, it doesnt bother me, but i would lube it up with some teflon spray, or a spray that doesnt leave an oily residue...

its gonna be a pita to get too though.

just my 2 cents

Have you tried taking the motor/fan assembly out and cleaning it up? You'd be surprised what can collect in there.

I plan on taking it apart this next week to see if I can't find anything. I imagine it is probably pretty dirty down there.

I need to take my whole dash apart anyway because my vent switches aren't hooked up right or something. I can move the lever but it doesn't switch off the defrost + floor setting.

I looked on 4crawlers website and he seems to suggest some sort of light lube for the motor that falls somewhere between motor oil and WD-40. I'll see if that quiet things down but it sounds like this may just be the nature of the beast. I have no clue what product I'll use yet, maybe a dielectric silicone spray or something.

yeah, i could hear a leaf every now and then on startup so i figured i had maybe 2-3 leaves make their way in there, i was messing with AC stuff and figured id take a look at it, low and behold i had a few handfuls of leaves and pinestraw,

it def. made the air blow alot harder. still isnt up to par, but it is better than what it was.

if I ever have to tear mine out, I am gonna put some sort of small metal screen onto where it draws it's air from.

Well I took the motor off and there was one twig in there. I think I may have cleaned it out when I had the dash apart the first time. I did spray some WD-40 on the motor through the vent on the side to see if it would do anything at it worked wonders! It is so quite now! I also found that the wire that is supposed to be connected to the switch that controls the air direction (feet or defrost or face, etc.) was broken off . I soldered a paper clip to the end and reattached it. Hopefully it holds up...it was working today.
