a 3.4L swap would actually be easier in the end.

Not even remotely close to being a direct swap, alot of stuff needs to be changed

I'm just posting to comment on your thread title. I know my minds in the gutter but couldn't you have come up with something else like 3.0 to 22r swap? Every time I look at it I lol.

Like Jay said, a 3.4 would be easier. It's almost bolt-in.

i was thinking about getting a 4runner with v6. i'm sold on the 22r series and i dislike almost all there v6's and I6 engines. i've never really heard anything good about there 6 cylinders. i had a 81 supra with a 5me engine. i beat that car to dead it never let me down. i also had a 89 cressida. i loved that car but once the HG blew the car was never the same. almost every v6 and i6 seems to blow HG on schedule.

I didn't think the 7mge shared the reliability of the 5zve. I heard this from tuners so they may have screwed with thier engines.

The 5vzfe is actually a pretty darn reliable motor.

My '95.5 Tacoma has 310,XXX on it and Its still on the original clutch, and the only thin ever replaced in the engine in that (5VZFE) is the water pump, timing belt, and head gaskets, it never even blew the head gaskets, just replaced 'em cause they were gettin old.. Tell me that ain't reliable and I'll show you a fool..

Aside from how hard it may or may not be to do that sway, it's illegal to do it.
