How to diagnose a bad air flow meter on a 94 22re.

My truck is currently not running. Had to leave it on the side of the road which I'm not to thrilled about. I think it's the air flow meter b/c it's not genuine Toyota and I've had problem
S with it in the past. The trucks turns over it just won't fire. I know I've got fuel because I can smell it. So how do I diagnose a bad air flow meter. Thanks guys.
