How is the 2nd gen auto antenna supposed to work?
On mine, if I start the vehicle with the radio off, the antenna stays down.
If i then turn on the radio, the antenna goes up.
If i start the vehicle with radio on, it goes up.
If i turn off the radio, it stays up.
I thought it was sposed to go down when you turn off the radio.
Mine won't go down until i turn off the ignition.
???

If it is an aftermarket radio/cd player than it controls the antenna. Therefore I would no worry about it unless it is a stock radio. And in that case I would probably think there is a short of some sort.

It's the stock radio.
So it IS supposed to go down each time you turn the radio off?
Is is supposed to also go down when you insert a cassette tape while the radio is on?
Thx.
(Cassette tape! I think I still have some of those somewhere.)

the antenna should go up with the radio on, and down with the radio off.
if you put in a tape when listening to the radio, the antenna should stay up, if you turn the car on while listening to the tape, the antenna should stay down.
basically the radio is not wired to send the antenna up when playing a tape, but if the antenna is already up (like you were listening to the radio), it will stay up.
at least thats what i've found in all my toyotas and 15 years of putting radios in them.

Thanks fullman.
Mine doesn't go down when I turn the radio off. 17 years old, I guess you're gonna have that kind of stuff.
At least it goes down when i turn the ignition off.
Next time I pull the dash off, mebbe I'll try to figger out if it's the radio or the relay.
Cheers
