It seems to happen only when its well below freezing and gets better/goes away as it the heat warms up the interior.

Its definitely coming from directly in front of me and seems to be around the gauges because when I push around that area it changes the noise. I demonstrated pushing on the dash in the video.

Also the speedometer needle seems to vibrate as the noise worsens.

speedo cable also that would drive me nuts but im sure my stereo will drown it out

Definitely the speedo cable.

try lubricating the spedo cable. if it still does it then it should be replaced, but it cant hurt to try lubing it first.

Got any write-ups or direction for how to lube it or get to it? Or is it pretty self-explanitory?

It's pretty easy, just did mine. Go to Napa and get the dry graphite spray in the aeresol can. Here's a link that may help you.

Sounds like you have 43 goats bleating at once in you truck.

I did the same thing, tried to lube mine and that worked for 3 months, then the noise came back. I tried a cheap $20 napa cable that lasted 2 weeks, then it started screaming! I eventually went to a speedometer shop to get one made. that cost $30 Toyota wants $90 for my year and model.

Mine clicks at lower speeds and when the engine and outside is cold..radio just drowds it out. I would lube it, but dont feel like taking my dash apart. Try using silicone spray next time too.

If you decide to lube it do yourself a favor and get the dry grapite spray. You don't want to gunk it up with silicone, wd40 etc.

Every toyota truck I have owned has done that. Mine recent truck started some of the preliminary signs a cuple weeks ago. If anyone knows how to lube the speedo cable, that would be helpful.

Bleeding goats indeed....

I guess I'll just go the replacement route. I would hate to have to tear it apart again and risk screwing things up twice.

And while I'm in there I can remove the dead spider from right side of the gauge container. Sweet.

I just lubed mine today. I used a lube called Dry Slide Bike Aid.

I use it at the bike shop to lube cables. It has a needle applicator so you can get it into the cable.

Mine will do it, but it rarely lasts longer than 5 seconds and it only happens when it's cold out when you start the truck up. Then it fixes itself. I love it when the truck does that...

You only need to take the drivers side apart.
