High Idle-Help!

New to the forum and have tried looking up my issue but no luck (I do have an idea from some of the threads.....i.e Idle Control Valve).

Just got my 93 Ext. cab 3.0 V6 manual back from the shop. I had the clutch and A/C compressor replaced and I also changed the plugs, cap/rotor, wires and motor flush. I prepared my truck for a 10 hr drive from Deep South Texas to Dallas.

After I got it back from the shop, I noticed that sometimes when I turned on my truck it would idle at almost 2000 RPMs then it would drop down to about 1000 RPMs (never had a problem with the Idle in the past only after these big repairs which has been since Friday). When I turn on the AC, it jumps to 1500 RPMs (which I think is normal). But the main problem is when I am coming to a stop or at a red light and I have the AC on (sometimes it does it when the AC is off also) the idle jumps up from 1500 RPMs to 1750 RPMs. This is driving me crazy because it sounds extremely loud and if something is about to blow up. Luckily I made the 10 hr drive with no major problems (only the rough idle when coming to a stop light).

Anyone out there with a similar problem and same engine that can help. Comments are greatly appreciated!

Just an FYI, I called my mechanic before I made my trip and he mentioned that my truck would probably be fine for the long drive but he said I might have a vacuum leak, possible Idle Control Valve problem, and interesting (to me) he mentioned that on Toyota Trucks the problem may also stem from the cooling system......not enough coolant in the Radiator.

if it was fine before it went to the shop, but idled higher after the shop, take it back to the shop and tell them to get it right, no charge.
plugs/cap/rotor/wires is dang near a full tune up. but his suggestions about causes are correct, but he didn't mention incorrect timing too.

the idle up is normal, but I have my runner adjusted to only compensate for the drag of the compressor so the idle speed is the same with or w/out the a/c on.

Thanks for the Reply. The obvious would be to take it back and say they messed it up. But I can not honestly say they messed it up because it was not my daily driver and it was parked for about a month before it went to the shop (I just dont remember ever having this problem before) and besides I am no longer in the area...the shop is 10 hrs away, this is a guy I trust and I really think this problem may be "wear and tear".

Considering what we know now, Idle jumping while stopped from 1500 RPMs to 1750 RPMs and then back down to 1500 RPMs.....etc. What is the most common problem and what would the solution be.....Anyone!

What would be the most common troubleshoots for this. Please list.

So far I have -

1. Possible Timing Issue - (Which is one of the first things I thought about.)
