When you adjusted the timing did you short the diagnostic plug under your hood? If not, this could cause all these problems. You have to do it like the book says or you won't get it right.

yes, you need to properly adjust the tps TPS Adjustment Instructions

You should also make sure the codes are cleared and then see if any come back

thanks mma alex, how do i clear the codes? i just adjusted the tps with feeler gauges and no ohm meter dont have one but i am not sure why one is needed if you are just setting a gap.as soon as i started the engine the idle stays at 1200 rpm then press the gas and same old symptons hesitation 1500 to1800 rpms then back again i am sure it is something simple, any ideas

you're not setting the gap, youre setting the position of a resistive strip in the tps, against the throttle body. It needs to be angled correctly so the computer realizes how much throttle is being applied. Go out and buy a cheap multi meter. Its a good tool to have, and you can get halfway decent ones for less than $20.

As for the codes, unplug the ground wire from the battery, and let it sit a few minutes before reconnecting. I believe that should clear everything.

Yep, this happened to me. I went into it just like you did, chasing problems the wrong way. It sounds to me like you need to go get a multi meter and the feeler gauges and adjust the tps properly. The old cap and wires and tps are probably in perfect shape, just needed to adjust the tps. It is very finicky to get just right, mine would only give a problem while the engine was warming up, at temp it worked great and everything was fine. when it was cold it would idle @ 1800 and surge real bad. I found out the hard way that the previous owner had adjusted it wrong after I replaced the cap & button, wires, plugs, coil, tps, coolant temp sensor(both), pickup coil, and a few other things I can't think of right now. Good luck. As far as the meter goes i have really enjoyed the actron meter I got for christmas. I got the one with the tach and dwell meter, it runs @ $49.99 I think.

thank you dig dug but if i just used the feeler gauges why is ohm meter so important because all you are doing is adjusting a gap.but i am going to pick up a ohm meter anyways i just dont see how it is relivant here for adjusting thank you very much.
