high idle and chugging

i finished changing the timing chain and head gasket the 1986 22re starts at 1100rpm and idles at 1700rpm when i press on the accelerter it starts to chug i checked that i was set at top dead center that is good but when i use the timing light i am about 12 btdc but that was wear i was before i changed everything i hope somebody can help me please i am in a world of hurt .thank you

i just adjusted the distributer housing with a timing light to 5 btdc but when i press on the accelerater it still chugs between 1200 and 1700 rpm i tried to adjust the idle with a screw and i tightened it as far as it would go and my tach said 900 rpm what should i do anybody please

i looked under the hood and it says to short circuit the terminal t to adjust the idle my question is what is that and where is it thank you anybody.

did you back down the idle to 800rpms ?

i backed down as far as the screw would go and that read 900 rpms on my tach it idles fine put as soon as i press the accelerter the motor fluctuates between 1200 and 1700 rpms what do i do

sounds like you got a vacum leak or there mixed up

thank you elton i will check but if it was a vacum leak wouldnt the idle be erratic or it would be difficult to start thank you

idle would be erratic also did you burp the coolant system ?

i just pushed on the hoses to get the air out and i adjusted the tps it worked fine i pressed on the accelerter and no hesitation then it came back it quickly returned maybe i bumbed when i was installing the air intake chamber does the tps have to be fine tunrd as well? thank you elton

sounds like your getting closer try adjusting the tps again

i adjust the tps and know luck it continues to stumble while press on the gas.any other ideas elton thank you

it almost sound like its not getting fuel .... did you replace the sparkplugs and wires ?

plugs, wires, cap, rotor are new i am stumped when i press on the gas slowly it will the rpms will climb to about 1900rpms then back to stumbling however when i quicky press on the gas it stumbles right away.thank you elton

have you replaced the fuel filter ? also is the idle smooth or chopy

the filter is new and the idle is smooth only problem is when i press on the gas
