i HAve a 91 v6 auto 4x4 with over drive but my truck is missing the button and my o/d switch light flashes all the time. is there a way i can straight wire it so that it will stay in od


also my second question is that my truck wont shift in to 1st when in drive, but you can maunually shift it into low could this be related to my first problem or is this a compleatly new problem and how do i fix it pls help!!!

 

If your O/D light is flashing, you have a stored trouble code. Under the hood, locate the diagnostic port. Put a jumper wire between terminals TE1 and E1. The code will then flash through your O/D light. My bet is that you will find a code 62.

If your truck will not shift into 1st without manually shifting, it sounds like a malfunctioning #1 solenoid. With the #1 solenoid malfunctioning, it will be stuck in 3rd gear unless you move the selector to "L".

What do you mean the button is missing? The O/D button fell off? someone removed it?

You could wire up your own switch. Did they leave the wires intact?

 

Also what is the code 62

 

I will look I'm thinking they are down in the shifter

 

Look for a Yellow wire with a Green stripe, and a White wire with a Black stripe. These go to the O/D switch. Hook them up to a switch from Radio Shack or even walmart carries rocker switches. When the switch is open, the O/D is on, and vice versa.

Code 62= Severed No. 1 solenoid or short circuit, severed wire harness or short circuit.

No problem. Just know that a code 62 is a circuit problem, not necessarily a solenoid problem.

Yes. Did you check the codes yet? The ECU only knows if it is a circuitry problem. It will not diagnose a stuck solenoid.

What I am saying is that if you get a code 62, you need to check the circuitry first, before condeming the solenoid.

Either way, let us know what the results of you code check is.
