Help, please! 22RE Idle problem.

Hey all,

If anybody could give me some advice, it would be greatly appreciated. I am now the proud owner of a '93 truck with a 22re in it. So far it's been bulletproof, except for one nagging problem.

Starting in the morning from cold, the truck idles quite high, around 2200-2500 RPM. The engine very slowly warms up, but once the RPM drops down, it starts surging. It idles up to 2000, slightly sputters, drops to 1200, then repeats. As the engine warms up, it holds the same pattern, but the RPM range drops. If i just start driving, and the engine gets to proper running temperature, the problem goes away. The idle is set at about 750 RPM, so long as the engine is warm and has been running a bit, there aren't any issues.

All of my fluids are always topped up, can't seem to find any leaks in the vacuum system, clean air filter, clean oil and filter.

What gives?

Thanks for the help!

Clean the idle air control valve, and clean the throttle body and all of the vacuum ports on the throttle body and see if that helps.
