help no high range!

I have a 94 4runner with a 3.0 auto and well it lost all high range about a week ago. I was having problems with first slipping really bad for a couple months that I "fixed" by tightening the kick down cable. well last week after driving about 5 minutes on the freeway when i came to a light my truck lost all forward and reverse gears in high range. the weird thing is my truck's 4lo works just fine no slipping that i can tell.

Does anyone know what could be going on with my high range?

when was the last time the filter in the trans was changed and the fluid flushed? adjusting the kick down cable probably only slightly increased the pressure in the trans valve body.
4 lo would allow the trans to spin a bit higher and build up pressure to compensate for some slippage caused by depleted / burned atf.

good point abe its either that or something bad in the tqure converter not locking up and causing it to slip and when its in 4lo, its a lot easier for the motor to move it get what i mean?

kind of like it's easier to start out in 1st with a manual than it is to start in 3rd, if you equate 4lo with 1st gear and 4hi with 3rd gear, it's easy to see how slippage in the transmission would affect how the truck will accelerate.

The fluid was changed and the filter was changed about 10k ago. The old oil was very brown and burnt and caused my tranny to overheat in the mountians i changed it right after.

I know what you guys are saying but it just seems very weird anyways. Why would the truck not stutter slip or anything in 4lo but not go ANYWHERE in high range either in 2 or 4wd... i can press the gas peddle and the engine will hit 5K and the truck will start to crawl... in 4lo i cant detect any slipping no matter how hard i hit the gas from a dead stop

also switching from low gear to high gear while already moving doesnt help if it that means anything
