I have another off day, and of course I am wasting it fooling around with my truck (1987 4runner with a 1985 22re). I have been using the info on here to track down the cause of my surging idle, and was looking carefully at the truck while it was running and noticed fuel leaking from this:

I believe that it is not attached to the throttle body, but to the intake. I searched for pictures of the 22re intake on this forum and Google but could not find anything like it. Here is another picture:

Any ideas?

 

It would be helpfull if you added an overview picture, pretty sure no ones ever had thier head where you're holding that camera. That is the front side of the throttle body from underneath?

When you can't identify a part it's a good idea to trace it's connections to find out what all it is hooked to. This will help you identify it.

 

If I back up any further than the second picture I would have to take the picture from over the radiator, which I can do, but you won't see this part then because it is underneath the throttle body.

It does not appear to be attached to anything other than the intake (manifold).

 

Basicly it was just general advice. An overview shot taken from the front with you pointing at either where the camera is going or the area you'll be providing a photo of. eg "I'm going the camera here"

Theres is definatly something coming off the side(right side of pic) and probably something on the front too(has a round bit sticking out, and I can't tell if thats hose or wire along the wiring harness bit that is in the way)

There are a few options for it's purpose, Water by pass(connects to the block area), P/S Idle up(Obviously connects to the P/S), A/C Idle up(Same obvious), and probably some stuff I'm not recalling off hand hence the hey what else is that hooked upto.

And a bit of terminology just to make sure
Throttle body, houses the throttle plate
Plenum, Large tube shaped object attached to rear of Throttle body
Intake manifold, Multi piped structure located under the Plenum.

Anyways see if you can locate where that one connection on the drivers side of the device connects and someone with one of these older models will be along shortly to inform us

Hard to tell,but it looks like the fuel pulsation damper. The only other thing attatched to the fuel rail is the fuel pressure regulator. This might be it http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/more...945&cc=1277300

 

Surging idle.
Search that. There is lots of info on that subject.

Check your coolant level. If low, fill it.
Check for coolant leaks under the intake manifold. The IAC (Intake Air Control) valve is located underneath the intake throttle (butterfly valve). If you get air in the coolant, it'll surge. If you just recently installed a new intake manifold gasket, take off the intake throttle body and check to see if you didn't install the gasket backwards (I did).

All these answers are based on my personal experience and solutions.
