Mine bit the dust last week, 205000 miles, I kept wondering what that intermitent grinding noise was that finally went away. Melted the alt and pwr steering belts. Just got the part in yesterday and installed it late afternoon. Pretty painless.

 

Never having one of these apart is it possible to just change out the bearing before it gets to the point it seizes up when it first starts getting rough.

I have changed out bearings on other Toyota pulleys for the cost of a new bearing.

I can understand the dealer only going with a all new piece but for our own stuff.

 

Every time I've had mine apart, I put some synthetic 10w-40 oil around the bearings & let it seep in (takes a few hours). ZERO issues now with 284k miles on it...

 

Let us know if you figure it out, I've never heard of anyone having success with it. One guy said he destroyed the bracket getting the bearing out.

 

Im dragging up this issue on 'replacing the fan bearings' too.
can someone please provide pictures of the guts/internals of that bracket?
I just dont see why it would be *that* difficult to press out the fan shaft & replace the 2 bearings. Im not clear on how this would forcibly cause the housing to break.

seems like a better solution to this problem would be for someone to fabricate an aftermarket rebuild kit, complete w/ a replaceable shaft& a set of standard roller bearings. Id gladly pay for that. my $0.02

 

Make that 6 today destroyed shroud and damaged radiator dented hood

 

Old thread, but mine is about to go out too. I have 227,000 miles on the original one.

I've also looked at all the aftermarket pieces that people have been talking about, and.....I'm not sure I want to take the risk of a "mini-explosion" in my engine bay.

I think I'm okay for now; it only makes a little noise. But I definitely need to take care of it ASAP, because I'm starting to get paranoid. Looks like I'll be hittin' up used parts stores.

 

I have a couple of these brackets sitting in stock as good used units. If anybody is interested.


No you cant find them at the parts store either. I have tried, but I have a couple of rigs with 3.o's that have bad head gaskets. I would be happy to pull the fake water pump bracket if anybody is interested.

Don't use those crap aftermarket parts.. I had one explode in my face sticking into my face, shoulder, and gut ...1000's of dollars later in hospital bills and a ton of stitches and staples ...wish I would gave put a Toyota OEM part back on...learned my lesson the hard way

 

Would like to add to this about some of the aftermarket Fan Pulley Brackets. A few years back think it was Jan, Feb 2011 my original siezed up (200000+ miles), bought one of the Dorman's from Advance or Autozone, and the bearings starting going out in it last month. It was sounding pretty rough, luckily it stayed in one piece. Replaced it with one of the aisin ones. But in less than 4 yrs and 30000 miles the Dorman was shot.
