Help, 91' 22re 4X4 - no power
i have a 1991 4x4 standard truck with auto transmission in it that is giving me a pain. It starts and idles fine but will barely pull itself when in gear. Its nothing in the transmission, it seems to be in a strain like no torqe. It will rev up in park but it slow/sluggish getting up to full rpms.
It has approx. 140,000 on the 22 r-e engine. Back around 90,000 i put in a new timing set (gears, chains, tensioners, etc..and genuine totyota parts too) and have not had any problems.
So far i have replaced fuel filter, cleaned injectors and as last resort cut off the cat. convertor but nothing helped.
I was told it is probably the EGR. Well now the question is where is this located and how to remove/replace/test?
Or if anyone has other ideas im open.
BTW, This is a standard truck without any modifications done to it.
Thanks in advance for any help

Try replacing the distributor cap, wires and rotor and check the timing. If you jump your timing jumper and the truck doesn't idle down then you'll need to adjust your TPS sensor. My truck had no power and ran pretty sluggish when it was too retarded (as in timing). The distributor might be off a tooth too.

Thanks for suggestions. I messed around with the distributor and got it running good again. I had to advance it quite a bit which puzzles me now
It only has around 50,000 miles since a complete timing set and the distributor hasnt been moved since then. When i moved the distributor the bolt was still tight so it didnt slip.
It also doesn't have the normal slapping sound of a loose chain on the cover, so i dont think the chain has slipped or stretched.
Well i got the convertor welded back in place and drove around 50 miles today and it ran good.
Do you think the timing needs replacing already? I always run a toyota filter, change oil regularly and this truck isn't abused as its stock.

That is strange but I say if it's running and everything looks and feels like it should, then drive it until something breaks, otherwise you'll be shooting in the dark on what the problem could be. You'll be fine for a while I'm sure. Just make sure you've got your timing set to 5 degrees BTDC.
