Heater Temperature problem

91 toyota Pickup 4X4 V6 Heater is only pumping out
1/3 of regular heat temp.
Changed thermostat to a 195fahrenheit but made
no difference.
All temp. vent and fan controls seem to be working fine.
There is a gurgling sound from the dash in the first few
minutes of driving.
Any Ideas?????

Did you fill the block through the upper radiator hose?

Air bubble in the cooling system/heater core. Burp your system.....there are threads here on what to do. Basically, get the radiator as high as you can, remove cap, rut heater on high heat and fast speed, start engine, and add coolant as air burps out.

Yes did the thermostat and yes did the burping. tried burping it at a few different
angles but cannot get any more air out. I have another toyota 92 pickup
4X4 4cyl it makes the same gurgling sound as this one but blows heat like
a sauna. there must be something more specific that would cause a heater
to blow heat. (but only at 1/3 of max temp)
Temp adjust control is working properly. you can hear it move in its full range
and can hear it closing at either end

Your heater core is probably plugged/restricted. Sometimes you can unhook you heater hoses and go back and forth with a garden hose between both hoses for awhile and get some of your heat back. Be warned though, some of the crap you flush out of there might be plugging a small leak that might show itself after being flushed out.

Check to make sure the heater water valve near the firewall is opening fully.
It's just behind the throttle body.

Both of mine gurgle but blow good heat.

If your rad is old there may be a build up of dirt and rust in the coolant passages and hoses. Try flushing it out multiple times and pressure testing your water system. That will fix the gurgle. If you search you'll find a .jpg of a 1988 or 89 redesign of the coolant routing near the water pump of the 3vze that accounted for the gurgle sound but if yours is a 1990 it's most likely the system needs to be bled. Most people on here say to park the truck on an incline so the rad cap is the highest point and let it burp the air out but I had mine pressure tested at the shop.

Also yeah, check that the heater control valve on the firewall (near the hood on the drivers side) isn't leaking and caked shut with dried coolant. If there's too much pressure in the system it can leak at the control valve and drip on to the mechanical line that goes to your cold/hot selector in the dash, sticking it shut.
