It would depend on your idea of hard??

If it has AC it can get real interesting to say the least.

Not real hard in a technical sense but very time consuming

Make sure it's not the windshield seal or fender/doorjam seals. Mine gets that way too and it's not the heater core. Different body, but same concept. Rather common problem. Especially with the northern salt belt guys.

+1 to time consuming. I think its a PITA and the tediousness of this job always frustrates me. My 2 cents though is make sure you are careful when putting the vent assembly stuff back together otherwise your heat/defrost adjustments will be off.

the entire dash has to come off? oh noo ! i would probably just bypass the heater core then ! don't really need it where I live lol

xxxextreme22r, I'm pretty sure is from the cooling system since the water under the floormat is green with some red corrosive stuff on it (needs coolant flush already too hehe).....

There's a link in my signature, it's not really a DIY per se, but it does show you the steps you need to take.

shaeff, I did find your post when doing a search prior to posting. I just wasn't sure if it applied the same method for this 89 pickup 2wd with AC.

I'm finding out all our toyota pickups, 4runners, 2wd, 4wd are very similiar.

thanks for the info

Yeah should be the same setup. Only difference is that yours has AC. You can wriggle the heater core ducting out sans removing the AC evaporator. It'll just take some finesse.
