Headlight chime ?

I'm tired of forgetting to turn off my headlights. Reading through my manual, my '91 runner came equipped with the chime. Don't know if the PO disconnected it or not, but I'd sure like to get it working again. Where would I start looking? Thanks in advance.

Same here with me. I was reading in my manual and it said that my toyota came equipped with a chimer but lo and behold no chimer. It didn't get disconnected because i am the original owner. I am curious also how to get it up and working. Anyone?

my chime doesn't work either... it was raining this afternoon when i went on my lunch break, when i got back to work i walked in the shop and for some reason looked back at my truck and noticed the lights were one. i had to run back out in the rain to turn them off

i too would like to know how to turn the chime back on

it's an SR5 thing; I really want to find whatever part on the SR5 makes it work though

I have a HUNCH that it's in the steering column, with the head light switch, but I dunno

my base model 91 doesn't have the reminder either, but I'm slowly adding little things here and there to turn it into a semi-SR5

I'm curious, has nobody thats' had this issue found a remedy? It sounds like it might be somewhat common. I wish I was a little sharper when it comes to electronics, but that's life.

it could be just unplugged. there is a red wire with a plug on it behind the drivers kick pannel. if thats connected then check all of your fuses. the chime is located by the fuse pannel so look for cut wires also. i unplugged mine so i could run my truck with no doors just like a jeep but its better cause my 90 pickup goes farther haha. good luck

I just came accross something at random whil looking through the FSM, and I thought it might be relevant

anything stick out to you in this diagram?

I might be raiding the SR5 4Runner in the local scrap yard for one more part in the near future

i would also look at getting the auto headlight kill switch from the newer Toyota's. I loved that feature in the 03 Tundra. when you open your door when the car is shut off it kills the headlights.

I've found that a little note taped to your dash that says "Turn the Dumb Lights Off, Stupid" works pretty good...

I've left mine on all the time... and somehow all of the close calls (5 hours later letting the dog out to pee and having to dash across the yard to turn off the lights) and a few emergency jumpstarts still haven't taught me my lesson.

the note works nicely though.
