head gasket replacement

hi im kinda new to this site but i hope to stick around and represent it on my alaskan offroad adventures. but anyways right now im doing a head gasket replacement on my 1990 4Runner and its having some drawbacks. im experiencing problems with the head removal. the head bolts i have on right now have 12point 14mm bolts and i cant slide them off with out removing the overhead cam. I believe i can do it but im just scared that ill F it all up. i got new head bolts that are 12point 12mm so i dont ever have to experience this problem again. but if anyboady has any recomendations on a easy way to do this repair ill greatly appreciate it.

By the type of bolt you're describing I'm gonna guess you have the 3.0 V6 engine right?

It helps to either fully describe the engine everytime you start a thread or at least fill in your sig so we can tell.

Btw, welcome to yotatech.

x2 take the cams off and make sure your squared up on the bolt before wrenching on it. Good luck!

thanks guys, i got all the gaskets replaced and i almost have it finished. for some reason it took me hours to get the cam off. i couldnt get the bolt off of the cam gear to get it off but i found another way haha. this was my first major repair on a car for me by myself or at all lol. so hopefully it turns out good. oh ya it was the 3.0 liter V6 91 4runner.
