Head Gasket or Rebuild?...
Hey guys, new to the forum here.
I recently picked up a '94 22re extra cab with 225k miles and a blown head gasket. The truck runs fairly well, (except a little rough idle and lacking power), and I was told by the previous owner that when she found out it had a blown head gasket, she parked it. Not so sure that I believe that, but anyway...
My question is, I had origonally planned on pulling the head and having it checked for cracks, decked, and rebuilt. New head gasket set, and good to go. Is that a proper assumption or should I just be looking at a different motor/ rebuild.
I have had 2 yotas in the past, both 22re's, and I am no stranger to mechanical issues, but I have never had to do a head gasket because it was blown(only yanked heads because of burnt valves, head upgrades, etc.)
What am I getting into?!
Thanks.

How did the oil look? If it was pretty much a milkshake then you may have trashed the main and rod bearings, possibly the cylinders/rings, and possibly the cam and cam bearings. I think you'll have to pull it apart and see how things look. I would pull the head and and oil pan to get a look at the internals.
There are several HG threads here that show what others have done. Good luck,

a grey milkshake is exactly what I would call it. If I pulled the head and pan, what should I be looking for as an indicator of the condition of the lower end?
Also, if I went the route of a rebuild, or JY motor what can I look at spending for the motor?
