just finished my sas and found out my new crappy rebuild engine from "mototime" is blowing bubbles into my coolant, leaking coolant from exhaust manifold. it only has 700 miles on it so im going to try an tighten the heads down and see if i get any luck.

what does this "additional 90" business mean??? can someone clarify these steps.

is this correct???

it looks like they are all 12 point.

Step 1 ........................................ 33 ft lbs
Step 2 .......................... Additional 90 Degrees
Step 3 .......................... Additional 90 Degrees

what i was taught is that if it has that turn it 90 degrees more so a quarter turn more no matter the torque

 

Torque to yield aka +90 degrees
If your torque hits and 12 o clock then you would turn the bolt again to 3 o clock no specific torque to meet at the 3 o clock position , so where ever your torque is met go a quarter turn more and do not worry about the torque rating for the extra turn. AKA torque to yield.

Think of looking at a clock and think 12 to 3 to 6 to 9 all quarter turns from each other make since? could be any time mark on a clock just remember 1/4 hour increments

 

I have always heard it called "torque to angle" when the bolt is turned X° past a certain torque reading.....

 

It means turn 90 degrees past your torque
Dont torque them and call it good, do it again correctly this time. Once the gasket starts to let go its a gonner

 

Head bolts are one time use. If you want to re-torque them you might consider taking them out and using new bolts. I would not want to break one of them, which could be a possibility if the rebuilder followed the book and did the torque plus 90 degrees and the bolts have hit their yield strength.

 

It's FUBAR'd. You'll have to replace the HG because they DID NOT do it right if you're having those isssues...
