I've looked through the DMV california driving code for a little while and i'm not seeing anything regarding door removal specically. Anyone here in cali know the rules for half doors on a vehicle that will be on and off road. I want to be able to use them driving around also. thanks

 

You don't need doors at all(ie Jeeps). You don't even have to have a roof (ie convertibles + Jeeps). You just have to wear your seat belt.

you do however need to have a mirror. one on the driver side AND either inside rearview or one on the passengerside.

I would double check with someone more of an authoratative figure on this as I recall that Jeeps got away with it due tto the lower railing being so deep. Since our trucks run straight across if something in the cab were to fall it could be easily ejected from the vehicle. I will check as I have a source with he local Police here.

I'm tellin' ya, you can ride a motorcycle which has no doors but must wear a helmet and you can drive a car with no doors but must wear a seat belt. There are no vehicle type inspections in CA, bumper laws, or lift laws. Just hardcore smog laws in most parts of the state.
