Grille swap?

Does anyone know if a 4x4 style grille and headlight housings from a 89+ pickup will fit directly on a 87? It looks like they would be a direct swap and the only thing that wouldn't be interchangable are the outer hazzards. My grille's chrome a bit worn out and I thought this might be a cool swap for the 86+ trucks.

Without modification, you cannot simply bolt them on. Sometimes you see it done to show trucks, but they have to alter their entire core support.

I have both rigs, I just bought a new grill for my 90, it is a lot wider/taller then the 84-88 style ones.

No sadly the 84-88 and 89-92 and 93-95 grills are completely different and not interchangeable. The 89-92 & 93-95 are similar but the hood line is slightly different and they are both larger in every dimension then the 84-88s which also had some style differences over the years but are completely interchangeable with other 84-88 grill styles.

I guess you could zip tie one in after all... not sure how secure it would be though...

Seems kind of funky to try to upgrade your truck to make it look better and finish it off with zip ties

The holes don't line up so you have to improvise. It looks fine and you really can't see the zipties.

I disagree, the stock plastic grill clips hold the grille in very tight and doesn't allow it to bounch around.

Zip ties are not only hokie (sp?) and cheap, they are a poor way to attach the grill. Do it right the first time, rather than having to do it again 15 times. Besides that, it looks terrible when you open the hood or get close enough to see it sticking out like a sore thumb.

I think your buddy's truck looks pretty slick. Does he also have a 3rd gen hood?

There is no way to do it right because the clips don't line up. Zip ties are fine and much easier to remove if you have to take it off. The plastic clips break then what do you do? Zip tie it.

I have put on a custom Dual round head light setup on mine, zip tied the grille to the truck and used black zip ties and u couldn't even tell that there are zip ties on there.
And it holds it on very strong, never any issues.

Mine broke too... never bothered to go to the dealer and get more: They'll break also. Zip ties, black, trimmed, look just fine.
