grill clips?

I wonder if we're all talking about the same thing?
I'm pretty sure these clips release by pressing the sides of the clip together on the engine side of the sheet metal. They don't have enormous grip, so often you can press the legs together one side at a time while VERY gently pulling the grill out. A recalcitrant one can be released by using pliers to press both side together at the same time.
Don't forget that you can replace all of these clips for $0.20 each (the link I gave above is still good today). Your clips are 25 or so years old, and are going to be brittle. Replacing them all will give you a lot of peace of mind. What you don't want to do is damage the grill as you pull it off; that will be much harder to replace.

Thanks for asking about this. In the past I released the clips by inserting a flat blade screwdriver between the two small tabs of every clip and turning the tabs apart while applying slight removing pressure on the grill itself. I was just thinking a Phillips screwdriver could work better in spreading the tabs apart gently. Good Luck, Pete

I presume FJ60Adam is working on some year of a LandCruiser; I'd recommend he go to one of the many dealer sites to find the correct part number, then just google that around (and he'll probably run into an eBay listing.) Then at least he'll get a photo of what he (should be) dealing with, and a source to replace the ones he is sorta likely to break.
pcmentor got the "wrong" clip to work, which isn't too surprising, The shapes look similar. Heck there are folks in this thread who would rather use zip-ties than pay $0.20 for the correct part, so this isn't Rocket Surgery/

the clips in my '87 are 90467-12022. looks like the 90467-13005 would be a close match. fwiw, these are NOT hidden fasteners. the grille can be removed easily using a narrow, long flat blade screwdriver. the blade is inserted at the front of the grille, between the two tabs (flat side horizontal initially), then gently twist the blade to separate the tabs and simultaneously gently pull outward on the grille. repeat for all the clips. i had the grille off in one minute yesterday to adjust the horn.
