got an ECT mod copy?

unfortunately, Mark (midiwall) lost his host server, and the page detailing the installation of the ECT Mod on his 96 4Runner Limited along with it (from the Dr.Z post https://www.yotatech.com/forums/show...light=ECT+mod).
did anyone cache the page and pix? i'd like to do it this summer and it would help a great deal to have this info.
many thanks.

I don't have any pics, or anything, but i'm an electrician, and could make a small write-up on this. Anyone know what rating potentiometer they were running?

It was small.. Galen's notes calls for 500ohm, I think I used a 1k pot and any affected adjustment was lost after about 30* of rotation.

The pot just goes in series with the ECT wire. A linear taper pot is highly recommended, as-is tying pin 2 & 3 together on the pot (versus just tying the ECT side to 2 and the ECU side to 1.

Finding the right ECT wire is straight-forward... You're looking for the temp sensor at the FRONT of the engine (on the 3.4 there's another at the rear) and you'll want to intercept the hot wire, not the ground. I think the coloring is GREEN hot and BROWN ground but I'm not sure. A DMM will tell you pretty quick.

There are a couple of ways to "tune" this - Galen's original thread talks about the RPM method, which doesn't require any additional gear. If you wanna be a bit more geeky, you can do it by watching what the ECU is actually doing.

Watching the ECU requires an OBDII reader that will show you STFT (Short Term Fuel Trim). fwiw, the Scangauge II that folks just got done buying through a group buy will NOT show STFT.

Anyway... You fire up the engine, let it warm up (this is important!), plug in the scan tool, and watch the STFT. SLOWLY turn the pot until you see the STFT go UP. This means that the ECU is adding fuel, adding fuel means more power as long as you can add air as well (you'll need the deckplate mod on the 3.4), th ECU will take care of the timing advance. Keep turning until you get to a spot where the ECU stops adding more fuel, this is the place to stop turning.

If I remember right, I think my site showed a pic of an overall add of 7%.

BTW!!! This DOES NOT mean that you just picked up 7% horsepower - it DOES mean that you're burning 7% more fuel than before.

Bottom line... it works to add a bit of kick.

any of you guys know the 22rtec with the a340h trans.? I need help solving a shifting problem after installing an aftermarket engine management system. I had removed the ECU when I installed my SDS EM4-f, as instructed by John @ LCE. Anyone got details on the pins of the ECT?

A340

You should probably start your own thread with a title to attrack the knowledge base you are searching for, A340 trans. Oh, have you used the search feature or tried a Google search?
