good vendor for gears/differentials + advice please!
i have an 88 4runner with the 3.0. 35's / 6" suspension / 3" body
ok i just got this pig running, i bought it with a spun rod. i LOVE this truck.. but its slower than.. well its slow. the gears are still stock (4.10s if im not mistaken but i dnno)
so, which gears should i go with? 5.29's? and what size are my ring gears? seems like i came across 8"...?
and, id llike to go with either a decent limited slip in the rear or remote activated locker of some sort, so what do you like?
i've set up gears before, im a fan of name brand gears like motive, richmond, etc.
so.. whos a good vendor for the components ill need? i come from a street rod/hot rod/race car background.. (read: 9", 8.8", 12-bolt etc.)so all of this is new to me.. and it seems like 4x4 ppl are a hell of a lot nicer and less egotistical
help please! i appreciate advice!
ohh id lke to be able to get an entire kit.. like bearings races seals etc. i changed the diff fluid in the rear yesterday after about 15 miles of driving for the first time since i bought the truck 3 years ago (college student, and speed$ came before mud$) and it looked like instant coffee.. yuck.

Don't go with Richmond. I had read they have issues being torqued to spec. Check out www.gearinstall.com I sourced my gears, install kit, and locker off pirate4x4.com vendor PORC (performance off road center) though I've had no issues with them I later saw them posted up on the bad seller area. Just call the place. I called several to get the best price.
I am running precision gears rear and motive in a new set up to put in the front when I SAS.
If your thinking 5.71 pay attention to ZUK's site. I'm not going to try to persuade you not to set up your gears. I paid ZUK to set mine up or to do check ups on them. He's worth the money IMHO. Good luck.

I've used randy ring and pinion for yukon gears in a chevy blazer. They were fairly priced and answered all my questions.

ahh all good advice. the ZUK site is a darn good one as far as the info i was after.
what about recommendations on what type of differential to go with?
id really like to have a remote activated locker but dont like the idea of having to rig up a compressor etc on my truck.. keep it simple
my boss does jeep rock crawling and he has an OX locker on his front diff.. its cable actuated and he loves it. any ideas?
