I'm thinking about getting rid of my cow. The whole reason why is because my friend has an 84 4runner with a bad rod. But he said he would like to get $1500 for it. And, I figured I could just take the engine out of mine and put it in his and have a nice 4runner. He said the body was really straight and good.

And my 86...well to be honest its a pile of junk...

What do you think?

so you can swap a good motor from a bad truck into a good truck with a bad motor?

1500$ for a rig with a bad rod is a little high in my opinion. I paid that much for my 89 and although it doesn't have the SFA it is straight for the most part and rust free and everything works.

If the motor in your 86 is running well and you can get the 84 for a little less then I'd say go for it. A rig with a SFA and EFI would be nice to have.

 

x2. I bought my '88 for $1300 and it was in near perfect condition, minus a few cosmetic things, with service records from its entire life. Then I sold it with a bad bottom end for $750. I wouldn't go over $1K

 

buy your buddys truck, swap in all your good parts (motor, trans, suspension, lift, wheels/tires, etc.) you have a nice truck.

swap all those parts you took off his into your pile, and sell it to some sap for $700, or scrap it.

 

Yeah, $1300 is WAY too much.

Honestly my engine doesn't run worth poop. It has good compression all around and it runs pretty rough and has no power. Probably something to do with sitting for 5 years.

lol...I'll see if he'll take like $500! haha
