Post Getting ready for lift!! Final questions.

Hey guys, Iam finally gonna be pulling out the M/C!! After all these months and years of wishing and waiting, it's finally coming together. He's what I've got so far.

TRDParts4u Gen:2 option one;
OME Front shocks
OME Rear shocks
OME Rear coils
OME Steering stabilizer
SDORI Ball joint spacers
SDORI 2'' Rear spacers
= $615.00 us.

Sonoran Steel IFS Truss
Sonoran Steel Panhard drop bar
= $238.00 us

Differential Drop Kit - 4crawler.com
= $40.00 us

Stainless Steel frt and rr Brake line kit
Energy Susp. Frt control arm bushing kit
from Summit Racing
= $115.00 us

Now here comes the question... In regards to the ADD hubs, CAN I leave the ADD the way it is for the time being? Or should I bite the bullet and do the whole thing (inclu. axle shafts and the lot) Or can I do it half way and just the the lockable hubs while still retaining the ADD? Also, should I really need the Energy susp. frt Control arm bushing kit? what about rear too?
Any questions or comments would be apprectiated!!

By the way, Iam going to be having this stuff shipped up Vancouver, B.C. Is there any way I could buy this up here (thru a distributor?) Oh and just for info It's all going on a '93 4Runner w/ 31'' M/T's.
If anybody has any tricks or install help as well that would be sweet. I've got 2 weeks off coming up and thats when I'll be doing it!!

Cheers, Lee Hathaway

you should go ahead and replace the balljoints, if they've never been changed. Also go ahead and get some manual hubs.

hey lee!

looks like you have pretty much everything covered, as mentioned, get the manual locking hubs, do the brgs and seals frt & rr while youre at it. no sense in leaving them in there and have them go out on you while on the trail.

dont forget the before and after pix!!

Has anyone in here used an OME steering stabilizer before? How did you like it's performance compared to the stock one?

This is just my opinion & don't shoot me for giving it but for all the money you're going to have in those parts, I would just do the 4" SL. There is a guy named davy1445 on eBay selling SL Yota P/U lifts for $599 & he can do the 4rnr lift for $799 w/ the rear kit. I just installed it last weekend & it is not all that difficult. W/ the proper tools & any mechanical knowledge it should be able to be done in 2 days - 1 person. I got about 4 1/2" out of it & my CV's are pretty much parallel w/ the ground(straight). The only cutting in the front was the front front diff mount & if I would have seen that I needed to cut it before I mounted the SL crossmember, I could have just bent it out of the way. Just my opinion - take it for what it's worth! Another option to consider before you pull the trigger if nothing else.

Do you have before/after pics of the lift? Is it pretty tough? Was it worth the money?

Pics of the outside of the truck or pics underneath? I only took like 2 pics underneath the 4runner when I 1st bought it for the heck of it - but you guys all know what they look like stock. I don't have any pics of it now, but I could take all you would like. If you want my honest opinion regarding the SL 4rnr lift - I would say that the rear's harder than the front. When I got the rear finished I thought for sure the front was gonna be a bear. I'd say they took equal time, but the front was physically easier. I had to work the SL upper link drop brackets quite a bit to make them fit & I ended up having to lengthen my panhard bar even w/ their drop bracket because 1 of my tires was sticking out about an inch farther than the other after putting the SL brackets on. But it is a good lift & worth it IMO to get the front diff down as far as it does. I could try to find some LC coils or put spacers in w/ the SL coils & easily crank my torsion bars for another 1-1.5" of lift. The SL coils are a little stiff so far, but I've only got a week on them. I was looking for more of a factory ride w/ just more height for bigger tires as I don't crawl rocks or anything. Most I do is play in some mud or snow. I might experiment w/ some LC coils in the future anyway if the SL springs don't soften up. But, for $799 vs. buying all those parts that were mentioned in the original post, my opinion is the SL is a better start. Just my opinion mind you!

Question

Lee!!, forgive my ignorance... but whats an "SL" lift? I havent heard of that. The main reason Iam going with all the ome stuff is because of there awesome feedback. Could you let me know what would be different with your lift?
Cheers, Lee
BTW Thanks for all the comments.

edit* Nevermind.... Superlift!!! ahh, I remember now.
Yeah, I'd rather go with OME.... just cus of all the good things about them.

You can't fit both a diff drop and the IFS truss. I've got one of the Sonoran steel trusses, and they fit like a glove.

If you scrap the truss and get the diff drop, you don't need to worry about your hubs. If you don't get the diff drop, you should go to manual hubs. I've got the same set up, and my CV angles are a bit pushed to have my hubs locked at all times.

Bill!!! You are sooo correct!!! I should've seen that! Yeah, the IFS Truss will not fit with a diff drop. So now it just gonna be the diff drop. Bonus factor = I can leave the hubs the way they are right now. Just do the whole lolckable hubs thing a little later. Thank you very much Bill!!!
Cheers, Lee

P.S. Keep them comments coming!!!

To convert ADD to manual hubs, the only thing you need are the hubs themselves. You take the wheel off, remove the six small acorn nuts and cone washers to get the ADD plates off, and put the manual hubs on. Save the plates to use as trail spares in case you blow a hub.

davy1445 on eBay

You're gonna have to call him tho for the 4rnr lift as he doesn't list it on ebay:
1-800-222-7023 ext 109
His name is Davey in case that wasn't obvious

Here's what we got:

1- SD33 Steering stabilizer
2 - N98 rear Nitrocharger Shocks
2 - N72F Front Shocks
2 - 901 H.D. Rear Coils (No more sag-ass )

All misc. bushings and bolts. Just waiting now for the 2 - SDORI Ball Joint Spacers Getting that thru the snail mail. But ya know what kinda sucks...all I got was one lousy sticker and it just has "OME steering stabilizer'' on it. Ah, well. We'll see if I can get anymore.
