Gets hot and kills engine

I drive my truck (22re) about sixty miles daily. The trip down to where I go to school it does fine in the mornin when its cool. But when I'm on my way home when it gets warm I have to climb a mtn. and the engine gets a little hot. Well if I slow down or just let the rpm's down it dies but starts back very easily but runs rough until it dies again. Does somebody know what this could be?? Any help would ba appricated

It could be any number of things, when was the last time it had a complete tune up, plugs,
wires, cap/rotor, fuel filter ?. You said it gets hot, how old is the thermostat and radiator ?. Im just throwing out things for you to check.

I would check out why its getting hot! Could have a clog in the cooling system or thermastat is bad, or water pump is going out!! I will tell you one thing 22re do not like to get HOT!!! If you get it to hot it will blow a head gasket and warp the head. Been there done that! Start with the easy stuff and work your way threw the hard stuff. I would try to figure it out very soon before something happens and it cost you alot more!!

Well i've never seen the truck hit 210 degrees but the thermostate and the radiator are prolly factory lol. I guess I need to flush the radiator and give it some nice new coolant and a new thermostate. Oh and to answer the tune up question I changed the plugs, plug wires, oil, oil filter, run some Zmaxx through it, etc. I just cant figure out why it keeps doin this. I'm gonna try the stuff with the radiator tomorrow though.
