Well finally got my pod gauges in and I love them. I find that I stare at them all the time now.

I initially bought a 2 pod pillar but then decided to go with a 3 pod pillar because I wanted to add a trans temp gauge to it. So I have Autometer Phantom gauges in an Oil pressure, Water temp and a Trans temp.



I initially had the red light on them. The red was really cool but in the end I decided to go with the green lights to match the dash better.



I commissioned a mechanic friend of mine to do the install. Let me tell you that was the best decision I made. I could’ve done the install myself but I just didn’t have the time to do it. It literally took him 3 days, on and off, to do the install. He did an incredibly professional install on it.

All the wires were soldered. All the connections were wrapped in heat sink. Wrapped in wire covers. Ziptied. No tape or twisty wire connectors were ever used. For the trans sensor he tapped into the trans pan drain hole. What’s cool about it is that if I want to drain the fluid I just need to unscrew
the wire off of the sensor and unscrew the center part and it drains perfectly.

 

The gauges look good but I think its a dumb place to put the trans temp gauge. Looks like he used the drain plug hole.

My friend owns a machine shop and I talked to him yesterday about making a protective plate for it. lol

ive been wanting to get an a-pillar pod too because the stock gauge cluster is a little lackluster...

Yeah, like I said in my post above I'm gonna try and get a protective gaurd for it somehow. If I can't I'll consider drilling into the side of the pan and welding the sensor in like I've seen done before. thanks

Why not just drill the side of the pan and then tap the hole to accept the same threads as the plug?? Just my 2 cents....
