hey all i just put a 3 inch bodylift on my 95 4runner witch has alowed me also to do a 3inch drivetrain lift wich has realy given me alot more ground clearance with the t-case, it only is about an inch lower than the frame rails rather than about 4 inches so thats realy nice. But the one thing i have now to try is to move the gas tank up a bit also. the gas tank hangs realy low and i want more graound clearance so i would like to move it up. but it seems as though there are many obstacles in the way has anyone relocated their tank or have any suggestions? any would be helpfull! thanks.

 

There is a crash casing around the tank providing something like 2" of clearance around the tank. you might be able to move the tank up an inch or two but that's probably about it..... what's in the way? brake lines? I don't know how the setup is on a 4runner.... good luck! -Hiriden

get a fuel cell and mount it where the spare was. and just design the fuel cell to be long, thin and wide, i would try to build a 22gallon tank and mount it where the spare goes, so the rear would be flat, then again a skid is needed.

 

Hi-jacking a little here.... but any suggestions of good sources for fuel cells with sizes close if not perfect to fitting where the spare went?

How would you connect one to the factory tank, if planning on using the cell as an aux? I have concerns about changing or loosing the sealed EFI system. Was thinking maybe running a line to factory vent, ball cock on this line and an aux in-line fuel pump.

When you get low in the main, just stop and pump some extra in from the AUX. Am I way off track? Better ideas, suggestions welcomed.

 

Downey has some fuel cells in their catalog. No experience with them, tho'

 

ive heard of guys just installing a second gauge and haveing a switch controled second fuel pump to pump it from the aux tank to the main tank.

 

Since the hardlines coming out of my fuel tank rusted out, I was faced with a little more urgent situation of this same scenario. I went with a std 15 gal fuel cell in the back. There weren't any "off the shelf" fuel cells that would fit in the back without hanging super low.

Getting the fuel tank out from under the truck opens up some rear suspension options (triangulated 4link anyone?) too!

and this is the place i may have build my tank IF i go with a custom tank, something along the lines of Bruces. the guy there, Rodger, has a 70s Bronco thats a competion crawler, and has built tanks before, knows what hes doing.
Or you can relocate it to the rear, using a tank from an Isuzu trooper or rodeo, which wouldnt cost to much, give Oleg a call, hes a yota guy.

 

people with aux. tanks usually put a pump on that tank to fill their main tank, not feeding from the aux. tank directly. as far as moving the stock tank up...it can be done but you need to look all around to see what your clearance is like. it may not be worth it for an inch

 

THis is probably impractical, but I saw a guy that had a really rusted out toyota pickup using a Keg for his gas tank!

sure just have a good pump and gauge and youre set. as long as your fuel pump in the engine gets fuel, it doesnt matter how it gets there (careful)
