Gas tank pressure...

Gas tank pressure...
After I've been driving my truck a little while and stop for gas there is a whole lot of pressure that blows out when I crack the gas cap open. Is this normal or may there be a vent line somewhere that is clogged or crimped?
Also when cranking after it has been driven and sits for a bit, it takes a couple of seconds of spinning to fire off. Then I get a strong smell of gas in the cab. Question is, Could this be related?

I experienced this with my 88 pickup 22re. Every time I remove my gas cap to fuel up I got some nice venting going on. I discovered that my charcoal canister under the hood wasn't working properly per the FSM. The check valve was stuck.
I replaced the charcoal canister and I have not had anymore venting.
This might work or might not work for you, but it worked for me. Some people go as far to say that the venting is normal.

I'll sure check that. I have never had a vehicle vent with this amount of force. I've heard some hiss a little.
Thanks for the advice!

Yes, pressure in the tank is normal (as the gasoline warms up it evaporates, and to prevent HC pollution the vented cap will not let it out. Only air in as the tank drains.)
But if it is "much more" than you expect, xylicon's advice to check the canister is what I'd go with.

x2 on a bad charcoal canister. I had the same issue. It got bad enough that it created a drivability issue when the fuel pressure regulator couldn't overcome the tank pressures causing a miss. Crack you gas cap until you can get you canister replaced.
