so, i'll update. my 2nd '87 4r sr5, the white one with the freshly rebuilt 22re and a marlin transmission, is now consistently posting 22 to 24 mpg over the last 4 or 5 tanks of gas. i'm thinking the rebuilt motor has come into it and is running efficiently. rebuild has about 5k miles on it now, just did a third oil/filter change yesterday, now should be good for 4.5 to 5k miles per change.
i still have a hard time picturing a dually 1-ton, with a 22re and auto, in RV guise, making 18 to 20 mpg. i'd expect 12 to 15 at the best with that setup.
both of the 4rs retain the front valence and lower enginine cover, too.
with the grabbers
both shod with their snow tires
Very nice 4 Runners. I really should get a front valance some day, its been on my list for 8 years. I have Wild Country snow tires, would not recommend but I do get the discount on insurance for running snow tires.
