89-95 toyota pickups 2wd or 4wd is there a difference? Also 22re or 3vze are the tanks the same?

 

The difference is not between 2wd or 4wd. From 89-95 the same body has the same tank. Ex. 89 reg. cab 4wd and 2wd take the same tank as a 95 reg cab 4wd (v6 or 4cyl.). Extended cabs are the same. Where you get into problems is trying to put a tank from an extended cab into a reg cab truck or vice versa. Short wheel base and long wheel base can have different tanks as well. If you match the body style of your truck with one from a junk yard, the tank should fit.

razed: You are correct in saying that there were different size tanks, but if you look up the part #'s for fuel tanks on Toyodiy.com for the various models ie reg cab, ext cab, short box, etc. The part #'s for the fuel tanks for these different chassis models are different. Options for a particular model came along in 92 when 31" tires were offered (only on a 3vze model). Larger tires on the same chassis had a different oem tank listing, also if it had a cold spec option (?) the tank was different again. In the 80's there was a different tank for a diesel or a carb'd model too. For other models, if you look in the back pages of a FSM there are drawings of all of the various frames reg cab, ext. cab, short box, long box ,4Runner,etc. with dimensions. Regardless of the model the round crossmember that the back of the tank bolts to and that the shocks bolt to is always over the rear axle, so depending on the wheel base where this crossmember is placed in the frame assembly moves. Also the front crossmember near the rear of the cab which the front of the tank bolts to moves as well depending on model and wheelbase. For example my 86 pickup 4x4 reg cab long wheelbase, had the greatest distance between these crossmembers and came with a 19 gallon tank. For other models, these crossmembers move (especially the front one near the rear of the cab), the distance between them decreases and the tank that can be bolted to them decreases in length. (smaller capacity). If you search for a toyota pick-up gas tank on http://www.tanks-to-pans.com/site/823208/page/305713 the tanks are listed according to the VIN # not according to any options that you might have ordered on a vehicle. That's not to say that you can't fit other tanks, I moved my complete assembly to the drivers side when I dropped the 5M-ge in my truck, but I assume that 808-3vze wants a drop in unit.

 

I did some research and foung out there are 2 different types of tanks one is 17 gallons and 19 gallons. I found one that is like the same one thats in my truck.

 

I concur, ran into the same problem looking up fuel level senders. But have yet to figure out which ones came with the 19 gallon. I want to say it was for the models that were campers but not really sure.

 

Main thing the tanks look the same. I got my tank complete with the fuel pump and sender. I can taje a picture of the sender if you want. Lmk. Aloha!!!
