front differential clicking
hey i think i have already posted a thread just like this but i cant remember so...
when i put my 4runner in reverse and slowly back up i hear a loud clicking coming from under my truck, it clicks for about 2-3 times and then stops this also happens when i drive in 1st gear but i also drive it slowly same as if i were backing up. just a side note i have drove it in 4L and 4H on dry ground but i only for maybe 15 minutes ( i was crawling over those rock beds that are in parking lots that have a bunch of round rocks and it was making the same noise as it does now). what is wrong with my truck and how long could i still drive it in 4L, 4H, and 2H and how much would it cost to fix. i think its the CV joints, i hope not the transfer case or the front diff its self.
* the 4wd still works i tested it today with a little rock climbing.

I don't think it could be that. I had my u joints lubed and had my cv boots and shafts recently checked at the dealership. No problems.
I was recently told however that my rear differential had too much free play in the gear set. Took it to a shop and had it taken apart and tightened. Perhaps it could be coming from there...

agreed on the u-joints
mine did the same thing when they went out
it doesn't matter if they were just recently lubed or not; if they're bad, they're bad
