Fuel Problem??

Fuel Problem??

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Truck: 1988 pickup 22re manual trans 4X4

Problem: I put a used motor in it (1991 22re), compression all checked out, I have had it in for a few weeks and have been driving the truck more frequently and here is what is all wrong....

First of all the truck is very hard to start after it sits awhile....doesn’t matter if its 0 degrees or 50 degrees....after it sits over night it takes 4-7 times of cranking it over til it will fire and then it idles rough for a few seconds and then will idle fun. After that if it is shut off for 1-4 hours it will start back up fine.

Also my fuel mileage with the different motor is horrible.....like 10-12 mpg. There is also no top end power (4th and 5th gear) I have all i can do to get it to 60 mph...1st-3rd seem to have power and push it along but the top end seems to suck. My check engine light does work and has not come on at all if that matters.

Is it a single fuel problem or multiple problems? I have inspected around the injectors and have found no fuel leaks...

Is your cold start injector working? Disconnect the electrical connector; if your problem doesn't change, I would look there.

As far as your top end power, I doubt you have a single obvious problem. Check the timing, compression, plugs, ... the usual.

The check engine light not coming on at all could be a problem, if not for any other reason than that is the only easy way to read engine trouble codes. Maybe the bulb is burnt? I can't say, but any other attempt to help you troubleshoot issues is moot without being able to see if the ECU is throwing trouble codes.
