Fuel leak

New to the game but have some knowledge of carburetors.

1989 yota pickup 22r 4spd 2wd with the factory aispin carb.

The problem:

After running it and letting it sit overnight, fuel seems to be leaking out of the bowl and into the intake, in the motor, filling the cylinders. I assume it’s leaking down in the oil pan from there because after checking the dip, it was watery drippy and smelled like fuel. Is this a carb problem or fuel pump problem? Ways to fix it?

Also, there seems to be a dead spot when I press the gas, what’s with the hesitation? Thank you

I'm glad to have not worked on a carburetor for, oh, 15 years, but your problem sounds like a leaky float valve, or a sunk float. The bowl over-fills when you run it, and it drains into the carb (then intake, then cylinders, then pan, ....) overnight. It could also give you a dead spot.

Or not. But pretty easy to check.

Okay I will check on that this weekend. I think so too. I’ll take it apart and see if the bowl & float are holding pressure properly.
On a side note, should there be a spacer between the fuel pump & motor? Could this be causing some problems too?
Thanks
