Front in grinding need help

Front in grinding need help

Can anybody help me I have a 1988 toyota pickup 2.4 efi 4wd it has a grinding noise in the front it will grind when I lock my hubs in and still in two high and when in 4 high or 4 low it will not grind when hubs unlocked

Check your spindle bushings. They probably need greased, or replaced. You might want to inspect your front driveshaft u-joints too.

The noise is comeing from driver side and it isn't always grinding only every now and then

I may have a similar issue right now. 86 4Runner 22re 5spd. I was searching everywhere, but the problem(as stupid as it sounds), I can't figure out how to describe the noise!! This happens to me as well when the hubs are locked, regardless of whether or not it's in 4wd. The noise sounds like a cross between the t-Rex from JP, and gym shoes squeaking on linoleum. For sure not the classic clicking CV axle: However that sound only happens occasionally, and there is a whirring sound that happens all the time (hubs locked) and almost sounds like road noise from the tires. My searching has led me to believe it's the spindles, especially since it started happening to me during the first snow/ cold snap. Let us know what you find!
