Front-End Regearing????Question????

I own a 1990 4Runner 4x4 w/ 3.0 automatic. I am looking to regear the rear-end with a 5.29 gear and just found out apparently I have to regear the front also? I've never changed gears on a 4x4 so this totally confused me. What gear would I have to go with in he front and is it located in the transfer case? Ill be changing the rear out on my own, is the front hard to change? Anyone have any links on where I could find more info? The more the better, I am totally lost after reading that thread? Also where can I buy these front gears from?

The front gears will go in the front differential, the round thing that the front driveshaft goes into thats in between the two rubber round things

You will go with the same gear ratio as the rear, they are 7.5" gears and you can get them wherever you are buying the rear 8" gears.

If I may ask, if you don't know this, how are you going to install gears?

yes it is, I thought you where going to get a ring and pinion set and install that yourself.

Anyways, Look for a front differential, there are usually a few floating around from guys who have done solid axle swaps.

Post a few wanted add's on various 4x4 sites.

You can re-gear just the rear 529 and run it that way on the road just fine.....as long as you don't shift into 4WD. Some folks actually do that because they don't use 4WD....and if they plan to then they get the front swapped over to the same 529 ratio at a more convenient time.

here's a page from my website where I organized some installs...
