Front End

1988 Toyota 4runner

My Front end is pretty ed up, i baught my truck and the running gear was in peices and i assembled it best i could. It works well and i havn't had any problems yet but i could use more flex so i am considering a SAS. It would be nice to stay on all 4 tires when i go wheeling. Here are some pictures of my front end though i wanted to find out some info on it before i go hacking it apart. I have never seen a setup quite like it. Any opinions would be greatly appreiciated. Thanks in advance JvD

The black parts are your original component connection points.
The blue is the lift kit someone installed.

They cut the black to fit the blue... and it kind of looks like the blue is a little out of whack. Especially the PS from the rear. My guess is that truck has had a pretty hard life.

SAS would eliminate all of the black and the blue... but unless it's really giving you problems the front end may simply need to be gone through and adjusted. Getting things as close to aligned as possible.

Yeah I was pretty rough on it after I first rebuilt it. I went from a jacked up 1979 F250 to this. So after I rebuilt this truck I took it every where because it could out preform my old truck so well like rock climbing and that. That front end has been in there for a long time. I am defenetly gona do the SAS when I get the time though. I am planning a complete rebuilt anyways. Regear and lockers because i am constantly doing more challenging offroad so i minus well do the SAS.

Looks like either a Trailmaster or Procomp 4" bracket style lift to me.

Those tabs have to be cut off when you do a bracket lift so the diff will drop into place on the newly lowered crossmember. Superlift, Rough Country and Skyjacker have new one piece crossmembers whereas the Trailmaster and Procomps have the little tabs that drop the stock crossmembers like you have. I don't know enough about the other lifts though to tell which one you have.

The front end doesn't look too awful bad to me actually. It could use a good cleaning and painting but I've seen a lot worse than that.

That looks just like my trailmaster 4in lift i have on my yota, but i would also like to do a sas but my problem is money, as far as ifs that kit is pretty good and takes quite a bit of abuse from my experience good luck with the sas tho
