Front differential leak

ok so This time I m dripping a little from the front dif. Thought pinion seal but seams to come from the front plate, breather seems fine, is that a common issue?
Not sure of the history of the truck (4r 1990 5so 22re)... 285k miles.. is there supposed to be gasket sealant here??
Thanks

If you're sure it's coming from the cover, open it up and reseal it.

Gotta be degreased perfectly with acetone or the sealer won't stick. Other than Toyota FIPG, I think Permatex Ultra-Grey works best.

These front diffs often leak from the short axle stub as well. give that a good look.

if it only leaks after use, it might indicate the axle seal, or pinion seal is the culprit.

Spent a couple hours searching but I'm getting comfused about what I need to do here, or even what I'm looking for!. The 4crawler writeup is for solid axle I think?? Is it the inner axle seal what I'm looking at replacing or is the inner seal part of the axle? What is that stubby axle called?? Anyone know of a writeup for this particular thing?
I have changed the axles on my truck recently.. if I remove the axle again, can I just then remove the stubby axle and access the seal?
thanks for the help. Excuse my newbness

Started to tackle this but looking at the differential plate how it is bolted on the front I'm wondering if I can do this without dropping the differential entirely? And if it is doable then do I have to support the differential when removing the front plate and drivers axle so it doesn't drop?
thAnks

I have had the front out a few times its not hard and well worth it if you need to clean it ( the second time I pulled it I did not even use a floor jack). Also keep with the red RTV it is much easier to clean off and the grey is not needed as there is not much pressure build up, it sucks to try to pry the front cover off with the grey RTV. There really is not much to the job, just a little time consuming.
