Freezing inside windshield

Hello everyone, I have a 94 toyota pickup with the 22re. The problem is that the inside of the windshield will freeze up over night after I get home from work. Is it the heater core that is leaking? I would think you would smell some coolant if it was leaking. When I get out I leave it on warm, feet position, with the blower pulling air from inside the cab. Any suggestions on why the inside is freezing up? Thanks Brad

Stop pulling air from inside the cab. It's full of moisture.

X2 you're recirculating moist air everyday instead of pulling in drier outside air.

Turn on the AC to dry the air even better. Most domestics automatically turn on the AC when you turn on the defroster.

You could also have a small windshield leak. The windshield on my '80 leaks and it does the same thing. I'd be willing to bet this is the actual problem.

With the heater running, the air inside the cab should be warm enough to prevent icing whether it's on vent or recirculate.

before you shut it off put it onto floor also, that helps keep moisture off my windshield most the time.

Are you sleeping inside and breathing out moist air that freezes on the inside of the windshield?.....

Running the heater on vent while you're driving probably isn't going to make a difference if it happens when it's parked. Once you open the door to get out, the air in the cab mixes with the outside air anyway.

There has to be some serious moisture in the cab for the windshield to fog/freeze just sitting there. Again, that leads me to believe you have a windshield leak. Just sayin.

I had this problem, i had left my air on outside air, and it had snowed so much that dry snow actually came in through the vent and hit the windshield.

i had this happen to me a few weeks ago.

first thing you can check, if you're a kook like me, is taste the condensation on the glass. if it's sweet, it's antifreeze and you've got a bad heater core. (you can also just wipe it with a paper towel and see if its smeary-greasy, or turns the paper color)

if it's not the heater core, it could be the condensation collected by the a/c system is not draining out. (this was my problem)

make sure the drain tube is clear and draining adequately. the a/c on recirc does pull moisture from the cabin air, but it only "moves it" to the collection pan. if the moisture isn't evacuated from the car through the tube it will just keep recondensing on the glass at night.

then lastly, it could be a leak around the windshield somewhere. cold temps makes things shrink. shrunk seals can become leaky ones!

good luck!
