I did a brake inspection, among many other things, the other day and there was light surface rust on the driver's side rotors because of a light rain storm. The truck was there without tires for maybe 4 or 5 hours. First time the brakes are applied it goes away. Bare metal does that. Stuff like Potassium oxidizes as soon as you cut it, although I've only seen it in those really old videos they show in high school.
