u saying you go under the truck and u can physicaly see the flywheel and clutch stuff? should be a half moonish plate covering the lower portion that bolts to the transmission. go to the dealer and tell them what u need and they can order u one up for ya. I had to buy one once but hats because of a motor swap and I didnt get one with the motor.

Yeah,I can see and touch my new flywheel.I called the tranny shop that did the job(very good job btw)and he said dont worry about it unless Im offroading a lot, rock crawling or live on a dirt/rock road.Dealership quoted me 40$ for what he said is the engine back plate. But then told me it has to be installed when mating engine to tranny as part of clutch job.I just dont want debris getting into my new parts. The guy that did the job also told me that being open like that facilitates cooling the clutch. There was no shield/engine back plate on it when I purchased it last august.

NOOO thats not ok. Who ever did the job forgot to put the shield on before the flywheel and clutch. The shield goes on from the inside. Who ever did your clutch must have been high cause this is a improtant feature. Don't listen to the mechanic. They don't want to tear it all abck down to put it in properly. In order to put the shield in everything has to come back out.

IT IS A VERY IMPORTANT PART. Think about it. It keeps all the mud, dirt, road salt, water, gravel out of a very important high friction, toothed moving part. If I was you I would make them put it in and explain to them that you know it all has to come out in order to do it, but that you paod to have a job done right!

The mechanic will no doubt have to do it on his own time, since he screwed up! oh well, too bad for him, should have done it right the first time!

nevermind just read the last part of the post...unless your absolutely positive that it wasn't there before you had the tranny shop work on it...the mechanic still should have notified you and offered you one. The thing about cooling is a crock!!!
