So we all know that stupid people walk among amongst use and unfortanitly we have very little we can do to fix it. However some times we get stuck fixing other people's stupid choices especially with vehicles so here we go.
The old owner who owned it only for few months decided he wanted to mod it and jack it up. I have fixed most of his poor choices but may need some advice on this one. He has inserted 1 inch spring spacers in the rear and has literally maxed out the torsion bars. The spacers are not to hard to remove I just need to jack up the frame and let the axles hang and I should be able to remove them. But the TBs are not going to be so easy. Any advice is welcome.
Here you can see the TB bolt. I will try to get a picture of the top of the bolt.
Not a good picture but you can see the spacer zip tied in place.
So the TB bolts are in there good. I am soaking them for a few hours and then going to add a little heat to the top. It's a 22mm top and bottom so I am using a 12pt 22mm wrench on top and a 6pt 3/4 inch drive socket and breaker bar on the bottom. I think for safety I am going to put a 1/8 thick sheet of metal on top of the bolt in case it does snap.
I called the dealer and for the TB hardware (bolt, nut, and upper seat) they want $34 per side. That seems a little high to me.
pretty standard for anyone who deals with rust. if you're replacing them, just let them snap or cut them out. price looks fine, everything is expensive these days - you're also quoted at the dealer and there's a reason people refer to them as "stealerships"
Probably for a few dollars more then they spent on the spacers they could of gotten some replacement springs and did the job correct. I have seen many times where someone spent more to do the job wrong or way too dangerous for an easy fix.
